VS Code
Set up Rungsmith in VS Code and build native Perspective interfaces from your project.
Before you start
Hosted read-only endpoint. It serves the same reviewed registry used by the website. Keep your local Perspective project and Gateway available to your agent.
Connect VS Code to the hosted endpoint. Keep your Perspective project available to the agent.
The skill installer requires Node.js 20 or later. For connection problems, follow MCP troubleshooting.
1. Add the MCP server
Merge this server entry into your existing project configuration.
{
"servers": {
"rungsmith": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://www.rungsmith.dev/api/mcp"
}
}
}2. Confirm the connection
Run MCP: List Servers from the Command Palette, start rungsmith, and check its tools in Copilot Agent mode.
Ask the agent to call list_components. A list of registered native components confirms the connection. This preview does not ask you to sign in.
3. Install the skill
From your project folder, run the installer for your operating system.
curl.exe -fsSL https://www.rungsmith.dev/api/skills/install | node --input-type=module - --client vscode --url https://www.rungsmith.devcurl -fsSL https://www.rungsmith.dev/api/skills/install | node --input-type=module - --client vscode --url https://www.rungsmith.devDestination: .github/skills/rungsmith-perspective/. Reload your agent after installation. If you prefer the ZIP, extract its rungsmith-perspective folder into this location.
Build with Rungsmith
Use Rungsmith to add a pump status and an operator action to my Perspective view. Find the components, read their parameters and dependencies, then adapt them to my project.The agent reads your local project with its own tools. Rungsmith supplies the catalog and documentation; the hosted MCP cannot inspect your local Gateway.
